Parishwide Halloween activities planned

Jeff Davis Parish has plenty of activities planned for candy collectors this year, with festivities scheduled with the Halloween spirit in mind.

The Town of Lake Arthur will host its annual Boo on the Avenue Sunday, Oct. 28, from 3-7:30 p.m. on Arthur Avenue.

There will be a costume contest for both people and pups. Other activities beginning at 3 p.m. include a coloring contest and pumpkin decorating. There will be a goodie giveaway at 5 p.m. Forms for the contests can be picked up at Lake Arthur City Hall.

Meanwhile, the town has chosen the time frame of 6-8 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 31, for trick-ortreat.

The Town of Elton will allow house-to-house trick-or-treat from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Jennings will hold Main Street Trick-or-Treat from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

During that event, Jennings Daily News will sponsor a costume contest at 5:30 p.m. in Founder’s Park, with cash prizes awarded in four categories: Ages 0-5, ages 6-12, family or groups of three or more, and pets. No registration forms are needed for this contest. There will be a $1 entry fee. The money collected will be donated to Caring Hands on Main Street.

Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home on Evangeline Road will host a large trick-or-treat event, with veterans and staffers sharing candy with kids. The event is scheduled for 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Halloween, and the public is invited to attend.

Bethel Church will once again host its House of Lights activities from 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 31. The attraction will begin on Main Street then have stops on Acadian and Magnolia drives before returning to the church on La. 102 just north of Jennings for more activities.

Marcus Cain Park on Peters Street in Jennings will be the site of a Trunk or Treat event from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 31. The organization Power Moves and members of the community will come together to pass out candy to youngsters.

Jennings United Methodist Church will host its annual Trunk or Treat event from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31 in the church parking lot located at 702 Cary Ave. Hamburgers, hot dogs and sausage links will be available for purchase. The public is invited to attend.

The Village of Fenton will also host a Trunk or Treat event in front of Fenton Elementary School from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31, along with house-to-house trickor-treat.

From 5:30-7:30 p.m. that same day, the Town of Welsh will observe townwide candy collecting.

Last but not least, the community of Lacassine will allow trick-or-treating in neighborhoods there from 5:30 p.m. to sunset Oct. 31.
