Robert Lee ‘Bobby’ Cooper

Mr. Robert Lee “Bobby” Cooper, 51, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, in Lafayette following a brief illness. His family has honored his wishes of cremation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5 p.m.Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at the residence of his brother, Billy Cooper, located at 19584 Monnic Drive in Jennings.

An Arlington-area celebration will be held at a later date.

Bobby was born in Jennings on June 13, 1970, to the late Horace Wayne Cooper and Patsy M. Monceaux. He was enlisted for six years with the United States Marine Corps working on F-18s.

After the Marines, he continued his career as an Avionics Engineer with Bell Helicopter. He loved his country and was always sure to extend his appreciation to other veterans he came across.

Robert enjoyed volunteering his time with numerous community and sportsmanship organizations. He was a devoted and beloved Little League baseball and football coach for 10 years. He was generous and charitable, and often made time to share his blessings with those less fortunate.

Robert was an avid Saints fan, even in the bad years, and a below average poker player to his dismay and enjoyment of his family and friends. He was a master on the grill and in the kitchen and loved nothing more than smoking brisket for everyone to enjoy while cheering on LSU.

Bobby was an expert bargain hunter and recreational diver who loved history and traveling. He was a gentle, kindhearted friend who will be deeply missed by the lives that he touched. Above all, his greatest joy came from time spent and memories made with family and friends. A true patriarch, he went to the ends of the earth for his family.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 30 years, Crystal Parise Cooper; daughter Corrine Cooper and her fiancé, William, of Arlington, Texas; son Cameron Cooper of Lewisville, Texas; and his beloved service dog, Maddie. His extended family includes three brothers, Bud Cooper (the late Cathy), Billy Cooper (Angela) and Jean Janice; his grandmother, Zola Mae Cooper of Jennings; godchild Amber Perrio; brother-in-law Victor Parise (Beth); sister-in-law Gina Deutsch (Chuck); and his lifelong best friend, Christopher Perdue (Camie), among numerous other relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Patsy Moore and Horace Wayne Cooper; and one sister, Terri Cooper.
