With an increasing number of reports of raccoons in Louisiana infected with canine distemper, dog owners are reminded of the importance of vaccination.

Distemper is a virus that infects raccoons, foxes, coyotes, skunks and most importantly, unvaccinated dogs. Dogs can become susceptible to the disease through direct contact with body fluids or droppings from an infected animal.
