If healthier eating holds a prominent spot on your list of goals, you may feel it’s necessary to eliminate some of your sweetest favorites. However, committing to a nutritionally friendly way of life doesn’t have to leave desserts by the wayside.

Calendar Guidelines Items for Community Calendar must be submitted during regular weekday business hours at least two weeks prior to the day of the event. Events run in the order of their posted dates and ONLY AS SPACE ALLOWS. Events more than two weeks away may not run until closer to the event. Community Calendar is offered as a public service bulletin for Jeff Davis Parish community and non-profit events. Send entries to editor@jenningsdailynews.net. To publicize your event in a specific format on a specific day or date, call 337-824-3011 to speak to an advertising representative.
Peggy Martin rose named spring 2023 Louisiana Super Plant
The LSU AgCenter is proud to announce its first Louisiana Super Plant selection for 2023, and it is none other than the Peggy Martin rose. Also known as the Katrina rose, most Louisiana residents know this rambling rose. If you’ve spotted the profuse, deep pink bloomers climbing on trellises or fences this spring, you’ve seen one of the most beautiful, easycare roses of the South.

Local writer awarded by Welsh Rotary Club
Past District Governor and Welsh Rotary Club (WRC) member Clarence Prudhomme (left) recently presented Jennings Daily News staff writer Erin Hargave the Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) on behalf of WRC. The recognition was established to acknowledge individuals who contribute, or have contributions made in their name like in Hargrave’s case, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Hargrave is the first non-rotarian or the immediate family of an active rotarian to receive the award.
