Jennings Garden Club recently announced Garden of the Month winners for August. The residential Garden of the Month (above) is located at 1523 East Academy Ave. at the home of Stephen and Brittney Van Hook (pictured). Jeff Davis Council on Aging (right) was named the business Garden of the Month and staff member Tiffany Dunn shows off the vibrant display.

Dear Doctors: I need it to be completely dark to sleep well. I’ve got blackout curtains, I use an analog clock and I even duct- taped the digital lights on the smoke alarm. I just read that light at night is bad for your health. Is that true? I want my husband to know I’m not overreacting about this.

FAMILY FEATURES
Belgian-Style Waffles 2 1/ 4 cups all- purpose flour 1/ 2 cup sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 3/ 4 teaspoon salt 1 1/ 2 cups milk 1 cup butter, melted 3 large eggs, slightly beaten 1 tablespoon vanilla extract Combine flour, sugar baking powder and salt in bowl; mix well. Combine milk, melted butter, eggs and vanilla in another bowl; mix well. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Cook batter in Belgian waffle maker according to manufacturer’s directions. Serve warm with butter and maple syrup, or desired toppings.
