The winter months provide many occasions to celebrate, and no celebration is complete without tasty treats. A perfect partner for a broad variety of flavors, popcorn is a versatile pantry staple that can be served plain or as a better-for-you addition to seasonal snacks.
Dear Doctors: I mentioned to a friend that I’m starting a low-carb diet that puts your body into ketosis. She said not to because ketosis is one of the dangerous complications that can happen to people with diabetes. Is that right? If so, how can lowcarb diets ever be safe?
Donald Kratzer (left) from Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 in Jennings recently donated, on behalf of the Council, $1,632 to the Jeff Davis Special Olympics for use in Special Olympics activities in the parish. Grant Wild (right) accepted the donation for the Special Olympics organization. Council 2012 also mailed a check for $545 to the St. Mary’s Resident Training School in Alexandria to assist the school in their mission of providing life skills training to God’s Special Angels who reside there. KC Council 2012 acquired the funds through donations collected during their annual Tootsie Roll Drive held at the intersection of U. S. Highway 90 and Louisiana Highway 26 on October 30, 2021. The Council is appreciative of the generosity of the community of Jennings and the surrounding area in supporting this project.
If you are looking to add a splash of bright color to shaded areas in the fall and early winter, ligularia is an excellent choice. Many people commonly refer to it as tractor seat plant, as the shape of the leaf resembles one. It’s also sometimes called leopard plant, but no matter what you call it, ligularia’s large, glossy, deep green foliage makes a great addition to the landscape.
Lighter fare is always in season. Salads may dominate menus, while vegetable-rich side dishes can dress up barbecues, brunches or outdoor buffet meals.
With the weather cooling, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend some time in the kitchen to try out fun recipes and create special moments with family and friends.
Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Did you see what I saw in December?
Did you hear what I heard?
