Throughout a child’s first years of life, there are several milestones for marking growth, development and progress toward maturity. As many parents can attest, few of those milestones are as messy, imperfect and joyful as those associated with a baby’s first tastes of new foods and flavors.

The school year can be full of challenges, but fueling kids for a full day of learning tops the priority list. Affordable and easy to prepare, eggs are a key ingredient for successful days in the classroom. From a wide variety of breakfast options for even the pickiest of eaters to a nearly limitless menu of lunches, eggs keep kids full and energized to conquer each school day.
Loss of trees is a common catastrophe during hurricanes, tornadoes and other weather events. Water-saturated soils also can contribute to trees uprooting during heavy winds. In addition, ice storms, although rare, can cause structural damage.

During the September meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Parish in Jennings, Grand Knight Toni Benoit (left) recognized Charles Savoy (right) for winning the Senior Singles Division at the Knights of Columbus State Horseshoe tournament conducted at Plaquemine Sept. 11. Savoy has represented his Council in an outstanding manner during many KC Horseshoe throwing competitions conducted at the area and state levels in the past. He has won the KC Area J horseshoe tournament several times and in both 2014 and 2016 he was the State Champion at the KC State tournament. In 2015, he was the Senior Olympics National Horseshoe Champion for his age group.
During the September meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Parish in Jennings, the family of Joel and Donna Richert was recognized as the Council’s Family of the Month for August 2021. The Richerts are, without a doubt, two of the most active supporters and workers within OLHC Catholic Parish. Joel is the Council’s Advocate. He has played an integral part in the success of the KC barbecue fundraisers over the last 21 years. He has also helped the KC’s many times to collect money during the annual Tootsie Roll drives to raise funds, which support projects that benefit God’s Special Angels. He plays a major role in selecting the annual Catholic Youth Leadership Award winners from the Council. He has also enthusiastically supported the annual KC Council Swim Party. Every year he officiates at the annual Youth Soccer Challenge and the Basketball Free-Throw Contest and these are events enjoyed by all participants. In addition, he has helped to prepare and serve meals at Council meetings. Joel has also worked on the Shannon Savoy Memorial Golf Tournament Fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting Our Lady Immaculate (OLI) Catholic Elementary School.
