Dear Doctor: I read about a family whose little girl got paralyzed by a tick. How does that happen? There are a lot of ticks where we live, and even though we’re careful, somebody gets bitten every summer. Is getting paralyzed something new we have to worry about?

Playing in or around water is one of the joys of summer, but this treasured seasonal pastime comes with some serious risks.
Despite all the challenges this school year has presented, the students of Jeff Davis have faced them head on and persevered, including the 2020-2021 CNA dual enrollment class of 2021. These students have just completed the CNA program at SOWELA Technical Community College where they were dually enrolled as high school seniors and SOWELA college students during the 2020-2021 Academic year. Each year, the Jeff Davis Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society international gives a $50 stipend to a new teacher in Jeff Davis Parish. Twenty-eight Lacassine High School Family and Consumer Science students recently completed an industry-based credential for Customer Service. These students earned the credential through the National Retail Federation (NRF) Foundation. The Customer Service and Sales Certification measures a student’s grasp of excellent customer service. The course develops problem-solving skills that help them meet customer needs, become valuable workplace teammates, and achieve career goals.
Dear ole mom. She’s been gone a while now. I often wonder about what she is seeing, hearing, or doing — up there. No, I have no doubts of her whereabouts.
