Jeff Davis Parish Cattleman’s Association recently made a $4,500 donation to the parish FFA chapters. Elton, Hathaway, Jennings, Lake Arthur, Welsh and Lacassine high schools will receive $750 each to be used for their programs and projects throughout the year. LAKE CHARLES — United Way of Southwest Louisiana’s 3rd Annual Battle for the Paddle cookoff event is set for this Thursday at the Lake Charles Civic Center Amphitheatre, located at 1111 Bord du Lac Dr. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and feature a cookoff competition between more than 20 teams who will prepare jambalaya and pasta-laya for public taste testing.
