Training Day
Law enforcement personnel from the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Welsh Police Department participated in active shooter training through Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training at Hathaway High School this week. Through the mock emergency, deputies and officers had to walk through a dangerous scenario from the moment they entered the school until they cleared the building. In one such hypothetical situation, JDSO deputies Thomas Gatte, Keith Doucet and Joseph Marcantel cleared classrooms and hallways before confronting a gunman and rendering aid to the wounded. This training is necessary in the event there is a mass casualty incident anywhere in Jeff Davis Parish, not only in schools.
