Monday morning, Jeff Davis Parish residents were awoken to the sounds of high winds, torrential rain, thunder and lightning. The severe weather system moved into the area in the early morning hours, bringing 90-plus mph winds and leaving destruction in its wake.

Touch a Truck returned to Jennings, bringing exploration and education on important service vehicles to local youth while providing family-friendly fun. Kids could touch and explore fire trucks, police cars and many other emergency service vehicles, as well as visit the Jeff Davis Parish Library Book Mobile or play on a John Deere tractor. Fun jumps and fresh barbecue rounded out a beautiful spring day at the Jennings I-10 Oil and Gas Park.

Early voting for the spring Municipal Primary Election ended on Saturday. Jeff Davis Parish ROV Joann Blair released ballot numbers and encourages those who have yet to vote to make it a point to make their voices heard on March 29.

On Monday, Jamarcus Dwayne Williams was in the 31st Judicial District Court facing charges for a theft that happened in Texas last December. During a hearing on March 24, the 31-year-old Iota resident was found to have an active out-of-state warrant with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office for stealing multiple all-terrain vehicles.

Jeff Davis Parish District Attorney Lauren Heinen released the conviction update for a Church Point man who led local law enforcement on a 12-hour manhunt last spring after breaking into Jennings High School and threatening school staff with a firearm.

Jeff Davis Parish fire departments had all hands on deck Monday morning as a large thunderstorm brought strong winds upward of 90 miles per hour throughout the parish, knocking down large trees onto powerlines and rendering many homes and businesses without power, internet or phone service.
