A new Jeff Davis Parish Economic Development Commission charter was solidified recently, with the swearing in of new board members representing the JDP Police Jury and Town of Lake Arthur. The EDC board will be comprised of three members appointed by the Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury, three appointed by the City of Jennings and one member each appointed by the towns of Welsh and Lake Arthur. The JDP Tourist Commission voted for the new charter arrangement that removes them from the EDC, becoming a standalone entity.
A jury found a local man guilty this week on numerous charges stemming from an April 2024 incident.
The Feast of St. Joseph was celebrated throughout the parish on Wednesday with many private and public gatherings. Rooted in Sicilian legend from the Middle Ages, St. Joseph’s Day traditions stem from a devastating drought and impending famine that was stopped due to prayers to the patron saint. The people of Sicily promised a feast in his honor for St. Joseph’s intercession, which led to the practice of setting up an altar with bread, fruits, vegetables, pastries, flowers, candles and a statue of the saint.
