A new tax point for Jeff Davis Parish residents and businesses went into effect at midnight today.
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury received updated insurance quotes for property and equipment, avoiding a large increase in premiums. The group was not as fortunate with health insurance this year, as premiums jumped significantly even after receiving various quotes.
Families gathered at the I-10 Park in Jennings for the annual Touch a Truck celebration, where attendees were treated to an up close look at several big vehicles. In addition to the large trucks, the Jeff Davis Parish Library brought the Bookmobile and there were several activities for children, including the Bubble Bus.
Jeff Davis Parish welcomed the first of the state’s whooping crane chicks of the season, according to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. So far, four chicks from the state’s largest bird species have hatched this season in three different parishes.
