Biden commutes sentences of nearly 2,500 on nonviolent drug charges
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden announced Friday that he was commuting the sentences of almost 2,500 people convicted of nonviolent drug offenses, using his final days in office on a flurry of clemency actions meant to nullify prison terms he deemed too harsh.

Special Olympics Young Athletes Day
Young elementary students from throughout the parish gathered in the Jennings High School gym recently to celebrate Special Olympics Young Athletes Day. Children enjoyed game stations around the gym, getting help from volunteers including high school students and parish Knights of Columbus councils. Many parents and public officials were also at the event cheering on the athletes.

Those looking to get recertified in pesticide application will have an opportunity starting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the LSU AgCenter in Jeff Davis Parish.

Jeff Davis Parish School Board had a frank discussion this week about the need for substitutes throughout the district in all positions and actions to take to remedy the situation.
