WOMAN CHARGED WITH TRYING TO DEFRAUD ELVIS PRESLEY'S FAMILY THROUGH SALE OF GRACELAND

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Missouri woman has been arrested on charges alleging she orchestrated a scheme to fraudulently sell Elvis Presley’s Graceland property in Memphis. The Justice Department said Lisa Jeanine Findley of Kimberling City, Missouri is accused of scheming to steal the Presley family’s ownership interest in Graceland, falsely claiming that Presley’s daughter pledged the property as collateral for a loan she failed to pay before her death.

DA announces summer convictions

Jeff Davis Parish District Attorney Lauren Heinen recently announced the conviction results of cases tried over the summer. Six men were convicted on charges ranging from failure to register as a sex offender and obstruction of justice to various drug-related offenses. Nathan Paul Hibbitts, of Jennings, pled guilty to possession of Suboxone, a felony in violation of La. R.S. 40:968(C). He was arrested in December 2023 and charged with domestic abuse; aggravated assault, resisting an officer and possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance. Hibbitts was sentenced to serve 18 months of parish jail time. This case was investigated by Kaitlan Cormier with the Jennings Police Department and was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Alexander Guinn.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Jeff Davis Parish school bus was involved in a minor fender bender on the corner of Johnson and West Eleventh streets in Jennings. At the time of the accident, 15 students and the bus driver were on board. The vehicles involved received a few scratches and no injuries were reported, according to Jeff Davis Parish School Board Superintendent John Hall.

Leads still sought in whooping crane shooting

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) are still looking for leads regarding an endangered whooping crane found dead in January of 2024 in Evangeline Parish.
