ELTON — The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana will soon have a new leader at its helm after the head of the tribe resigned on Friday.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Louisiana Municipal Association (LMA) recently recognized the Town of Lake Arthur for their entry of Beaux the Mischievous Elf into the Community Achievement Awards competition. The Adventures of Beaux was submitted to the category of Technology and Creativity and received an Honorable Mention at the recent LMA conference held this year in Shreveport.

The Jennings Police Department responded to a call Friday evening on the south side of the city that led to the arrest of a local man on gun and attempted murder charges.

One unlucky Republic Services driver found himself sitting in the hot seat – literally – when his garbage truck caught fire on Friday. The truck was able to be driven a short distance to the Jennings Fire Department where firefighters jumped into action to douse the flames. Jennings Police Department also responded to the incident.

LAFAYETTE — The community is invited to join Miles Perret Cancer Services in lighting up the night sky for the 21st annual Camellia Crossing: Acadiana’s Gleaux Run. This nighttime 5K and one-mile fun run will take place on the night before Thanksgiving on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at River Ranch Town Square, located at 1100 Camellia Blvd.

BATON ROUGE — Keep Louisiana Beautiful and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser are proud to introduce the “Put the Brakes on Litter” campaign in partnership with the Louisiana Automobile Dealer Association. This campaign will distribute litter kits and educational signage to participating car dealerships in Louisiana to educate motorists on the importance of roadside litter prevention.
