(The Center Square) — Ongoing smuggling operations continue at the U.S.-Canada border. After alleged offenders are arrested and charged by federal immigration officers, they are being indicted and prosecuted, with recent announcement occurring in Vermont and upstate New York.

JEFF DAVIS PARISH — State officials are advising of upcoming roadwork and lane closures on the interstate this week.

This week President Trump announced that the EPA would reverse and eliminate an Obama Administration greenhouse gas rule that has been unfairly used to justify broad and sweeping 'climate change' regulations. Specifically, the EPA will remove the 2009 “endangerment finding,” which identifies six greenhouse gases—which provide vital food for plants in greenhouses— as “a threat to public health and welfare.' And, because this standard was so broadly used, its roll back is being considered the largest act of environmental deregulation in American history.

Boudreaux shares trip highlights for additional infrastructure

Travelers on Racca Road and 11th Street in Jennings may find some relief from traffic congestion after Mayor Henry Guinn announced plans to widen the roadway and add a turning lane.

Jeff Davis Parish Economic Development Commission Director Cesilee Oliver recently travelled to Washington D.C. with a group of parish and state leaders for the annual Mardi Gras celebration. The event provided an opportunity to meet with Louisiana representatives on the federal level. The group also included USDA Louisiana Rural Director Troy Romero, Police Jury President Butch LaFargue, Jury Parish Administrator Ben Boudreaux and Chamber of Commerce Director Jeanne Boudreaux, who were given opportunities to present various challenges the parish is facing, along with areas for economic and infrastructure development in the parish that Louisiana delegates can help assist with funding.
