Parish community leaders gathered on Tuesday at SOWELA Technical Community College in Jennings for the annual Legislative Breakfast for an update on projects and hot topics around the state, as well as hopes for the upcoming session.
Three major projects in the City of Jennings were declared substantially complete this week, including the waterworks administration building, street improvement project and historic sign replacement.
City officials here are gearing up for the annual City of Jennings Mardi Gras Festival happening this weekend.
The hard-working organizers of the Lake Arthur Mardi Gras Run and Parade hosted another successful event this year with an even bigger turnout. Over 70 floats, plus horses and carriages, joined the annual chicken run and more than 80 floats entered the parade running down the main street in Lake Arthur. The chicken run stop along Trailer Town Road was filled with floats from end to end and gave Mardi Gras goers a chance to mingle, participate in the traditional chicken chase and enjoy a massive block party. The family-friendly event gets more popular each year as people from all over Louisiana and out of state join in the fun as the small town of Lake Arthur throws their famous traditional Mardi Gras celebration.
The 2026 tax season is officially underway, and while millions of Americans prepare to file, officials with the IRS Criminal Investigation Atlanta Field Office, which serves Louisiana, are urging taxpayers to stay vigilant against unscrupulous tax preparers who prey on unsuspecting filers.
