My name is Ivy Woods, and I am a lifelong resident of Jeff Davis Parish. I decided to seek the seat of Louisiana State representative for District 37 after Troy Romero resigned, resulting in a special election to be held on Feb. 7. I have been married to my wife, Bridgit R. Simon, for 38 years, and together we raised five sons who are now raising families of their own. I am proud to be the grandfather of eight grandchildren, who bring immense joy and purpose to my life. I graduated from Lake Arthur High School in 1981 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness from McNeese State University in 1986, making me most qualified for the position. During my high school and college years, I worked at Lake Arthur Rice Dryer for eight years. I then began working for the Louisiana State Police for 21years, beginning as a road trooper. I eventually began working as an LSP Motor Carrier Safety Officer, HAZMAT Inspector, Cargo, Eighteen-Wheeler and Motor Coach Inspector. Additionally, I was honored to be on the LSP SWAT 2nd Platoon from1991-2006. Upon retirement from the Louisiana State Police, I served as sheriff of Jeff Davis Parish for 12 years. I have dedicated 33 years of my life to serving this parish.
