The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury ushers in new leadership as Juror Butch LaFargue was voted to replace Steve Eastman — who held the position for five years — as new jury president. Juror Wayne Fruge accepted the position of vice president. LaFargue represents District 11 and was elected by acclamation as no roll-call vote was necessary. A roll-call vote for vice president was necessary as neither Fruge nor Juror Tim McKnight received an overwhelming vote of approval. Jurors Chad Woods, Kori Myers, Melvin Adams, Fruge, Byron Buller and Bill LaBouve voted in favor of Fruge, while Marcus Peterson, McKnight and Eastman voted in favor of McKnight. Three votes were missing, as Jurors Donald Woods and David LeJeune were not present and former Juror Owen Cormier recently passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer.
