The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury announced this week that the parish-wide burn ban has been lifted. Residents may now resume open burning; however, everyone is urged to exercise caution and follow safe burning practices. Officials encourage residents to ensure all fires are attended to at all times, avoid burning during windy conditions and keep adequate water or equipment nearby to control flames if needed. The Jeff Davis Parish Department of Special Services celebrates its students every day, and for the holidays, one student is chosen to create a holiday card that embodies the essence of the season. “The Jeff Davis Parish Department of Special Services is delighted to share that Elton Elementary fourthgrade student, Karter L., created the artwork featured on this year’s ‘Happy Halloween’ card,” according to Supervisor Jeremy Fuselier. “Karter's artistic talent and creativity truly captured the spirit of Halloween!”

A major interchange here will soon have a bright facelift after the state partnered with the city to update the lighting in the area near Interstate Exit 65.
Fenton Elementary School recently celebrated its annual literacy night with frighteningly fun fall festivities. The event combined the excitement of a traditional fall festival with engaging literacy activities designed to promote a love of reading. Stations featured interactive reading games, face painting, train rides and reading fluency facts for parents. Students dressed in festive fall attire and participated in themed literacy stations where they practiced key reading skills while earning prizes and treats. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as parents and children explored learning together in a fun and welcoming environment. Principal Emily Davis expressed appreciation for the outstanding participation, saying, “It was wonderful to see our families come out and celebrate reading together. Events like this remind us that literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning—and it can be fun, too!”
