SULPHUR — On Wednesday afternoon at McMurry Park in Sulphur, the Welsh Greyhounds took the field in hopes that the hard work the team had put in all season would culminate in their first-ever state baseball championship. Between the Hounds and their goal stood the Dragons of Mangham High, who were looking for their first state baseball title since 2013. Welsh put up a valiant fight, but it was the Dragons’ Day to shine, outlasting the Greyhounds with an 11-7 victory.

GATORADE BATH
To celebrate their recent victory, the Welsh High School Greyhound baseball team bombarded Head Coach Caleb Hayes after the matchup, drenching him in a celebratory Gatorade bath. What began in 1984 as a playful gesture of revenge against Coach Bill Parcells by the New York Giants, this wet and sticky tradition has grown into a symbol of victory for many sports teams. The first nationally televised Gatorade bath took place after Super Bowl XXI in 1987, cementing the ritual in history.
