PLAQUEMINE — The Jennings High Lady Bulldogs traveled to PlaqueminefortheDivision II Bi-District contest against Plaquemine Senior High Lady Green Devils Thursday night. The No. 22 Lady Dogs were not favored to win against the No. 11 Lady Devils, however they showed why they should not be underestimated. The intense play by play game had the gym reeling as the Lady Bulldogs matched the Lady Devils nearly point to point for the entire game and pulled off a nine-point win in overtime with a final score of 51-42.
LAKE ARTHUR — As the first round of playoffs kicked off Thursday night, the Lake Arthur High Lady Tigers were the only Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) team to have the home court advantage as they hosted the Grand Lake High Lady Hornets in “Nooky” Moore Gymnasium.
LACASSINE — The Lacassine High Lady Cardinals (20-15, 3-5) hosted the JS Clark Leadership Academy (JSC) Lady Bulldogs (21-10, 3-5) in a district competition to wrap up their regular season Friday night.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints hired Joe Woods as defensive coordinator and Todd Grantham as defensive line coach Wednesday.
WELSH — The Welsh High Greyhounds hosted the Bell City High Bruins Tuesday night in a nondistrict competition. The Hounds would trail behind the Bruins by 14 points at halftime. However, the gym heated up as the Greyhounds made a second half run that brought the game down to one point at the buzzer. Even though the Hounds didn’t leave with the win, they made an impressive push as they closed the gap falling just short with a final score of 67-68 to the Bruins.
WELSH — The Welsh High Greyhounds (19-9, 9-1) celebrated a victory over the Notre Dame High Pioneers (12-8, 5-5) Friday night. The win named the Hounds District 5-2A Champs, a title the Welsh High basketball program hasn’t claimed in nine years since 2014. The tense game had the gym in a frenzy as the Pioneers came out with a strong second half push in an effort to catch the Hounds. However, Welsh remained strong and controlled the court for the 58-52 win over Notre Dame. With the win the 2022-23 Welsh Greyhounds Basketball team had the privilege of participating in the tradition of cutting the net.
HATHAWAY — The Hathaway High Lady Hornets (29-4) hosted the Bell City High Lady Bruins (19-9) in the final game of their regular season Friday night. The Lady Hornets remained undefeated in district play and celebrated their victory with a fifth consecutive District 6-B Championship. The Ladies were all smiles as they participated in the traditional cutting of the net following the game.
All six of the Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) high school basketball teams have made it to the first round of the LHSAA 20222023 High School Playoffs. The games will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, with tip-off times of 6 p.m. Admission to the games will be $8.
