Lady Indians open season with 49-34 win over WCA

LAFAYETTE — The Elton Lady Indians kicked off their season on a high note last week by taking down Westminster Christian Academy (WCA) by a final of 49-34 in their season opener. The Lady Indians put three players in double digits in the scoring column to help preserve the win. The Lady Indians were back in action Monday night when they traveled to Sulphur to take on the 5A Lady Tors, then travel to New Iberia Wednesday night to face off with the Catholic High Lady Panthers.

College football was better for having Mike Leach

Although this may not pertain to our area of local sports or even our great state of Louisiana, college football fans around the country were shocked at the sudden passing of Mississippi State University Head Football Coach Mike Leach a week ago. Not caring much for the NFL myself besides a few members of the Cincinnati Bengals to be exact (you can go ahead and guess who those are). And the “Pride of Jennings” Travis Etienne Jr. and his upstart Jaguars, I am a college football die-hard. Of course I bleed two colors, and two colors only ... purple and gold, my appreciation for the game of college football extends way further than just the beautiful sites of Death Valley on a Saturday night.

NHL postpones game, colleges scramble as winter storm looms

(AP) — A major winter storm projected to affect much of the eastern United States this week prompted the NHL on Wednesday to postpone the Buffalo Sabres’ home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning two days before it was scheduled to be played.
