The Dogs and Cats will tangle for the fifth consecutive year up in Vernon Parish, however the series dates all the way back to 1934. Jennings leads the overall series with a 17-5 edge, however the Wampus Cats have won two out of the last three contests, including a 35-14 win last season in Jerry Simmons Stadium. Both the Dogs and Cats are coming into the opener after being shutout in their jamboree contests. The Bulldogs fell to Class 2A No. 1 Many 27-0, while Leesville dropped a 6-0 decision to Tioga.
ELTON – The Elton Indians are set to kick off year two of the Marcus Lejeune era Friday night when they travel to Pickering to take on the 2A Red Devils. Both clubs are coming off winless seasons in 2021, but the Indians are seeking their first win in a couple years. Both teams dropped their jamboree contests a week ago, with the Indians falling to a talented Lake Arthur club 27-7, while Pickering was chopped down by Vinton 27-0 in the SPOT Jamboree held in Sulphur. Despite the loss, Elton showed promise on both sides of the football, and played without a trio of starters who should be back in week one.
LA looking to carry momentum from jamboree
The Jennings High Volleyball team got their season underway with a win over the LCCP Lady Trailblazers Wednesday night at Gaudet Gymnasium. The Lady Dogs swept through LCCP in three sets, while the junior varsity squad also claimed a win. JHS was back in action Thursday night when they hosted St. Edmund Catholic.
