LACASSINE — Over the past five years, Lacassine’s Giselle Fuentes has turned herself into one of the top high school softball players in Southwest Louisiana. Only five years into the program being started in Lacassine, Fuentes helped guide the Lady Cardinals all the way to the Class B quarterfinals in 2022, a mere game away from the state tournament in Sulphur. The slugging senior put up gaudy numbers in her senior campaign at the plate, hitting an even .500 with 13 homeruns and found her name on All-District, All-State and All Southwest Louisiana teams. She was ultimately voted Jeff Davis Parish’s Hitter of the Year before taking her talents to Northeast Texas Community College (NETC) next season. Fuentes is the second catcher in Lacassine history to sign a college scholarship after Haylie Hoffpauir signed at Millsaps College. Fuentes discussed what having Hoffpauir meant to her and her how she pushed her to become a better ball player.

LAKE ARTHUR – For the past four basketball seasons, Lake Arthur guard Vivian Sketoe has been quite a presence on the hardwood for the highly successful Lady Tigers. She has appeared in a trio of state tournaments and even helped bring home a Class 2A state title in 2021. On paper it seems as though she has had a great and full career. She’s been named to multiple All-District, All-Parish and even All-State teams and even hit the 1,000-point milestone in just her sophomore season. However, this sharp-shooting young lady still has two seasons of high school basketball still to play. On top of that, she’s a cheerleader on one of the best cheer squads around, runs track and even crosscountry, all while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA for her entire time as a student. Through all of her numerous activities, sports and other accomplishments, it’s no secret when talking to her to see that the game of basketball is what makes this 16-year old truly happy.

LACASSINE - Some may consider being involved in several sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities in high school risky. However, recent Lacassine graduate, Isabella Hardy, strategically participated in an ambitious schedule with remarkable success. In her senior year alone, Hardy participated in basketball, tennis, and track, while holding positions as cross-country manager, FFA Chapter President, FFA Area Treasurer, 4-H President, and French Club President, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA average and graduating as valedictorian of the LHS class of 2022.
