LAKE ARTHUR — After coming off a good showing against the Notre Dame Pioneers last Thursday, the Lake Arthur Tigers are now turning their attention to a non-district tilt against Richwood High School in Monroe. The Tigers beat the Rams a year ago in Lake Arthur but will have a much stiffer test when they make the three-hour trek north to Monroe tonight. The Tigers enter the match-up with a 5-1 record, with their only blemish coming at the hands of the Pios a week ago by a score of 35-7. Richwood enters the contest with an overall mark of 1-4 but has played an extremely tough schedule of North Louisiana powers. The Rams opened the year with a 20-15 win over West Ouachita but have dropped four straight games following. They fell to Class 2A power Mangham (34-28), Wossman (28-14), Tioga (54-30) and Sterlington (40-0). The Rams are coming off a bye week last week, and Lake Arthur Head Coach Tarius Davis said the Rams are kind of a mystery because of their tough schedule.

Welsh High School offensive lineman Jayden Turnley was recently named to the LHSAA’s All-Academic Composite Team released this week. Turnley carries a 4.0 grade point average in the classroom and anchors a strong Greyhound offensive line. Turnley was the only player in Jeff Davis Parish to accomplish this feat.

LORANGER — The Welsh Greyhounds made the long trek to Loranger Friday night, and for the second year in a row, overcame the Wolves, this time by a 12-0 shutout to move their record to 3-3 for the season. Welsh will now begin the rigors of District 6-2A next week when they travel to face Lafayette Renaissance.

ELTON — The Elton Indians had no game last week, as the Oberlin Tigers were forced to forfeit because of a low number of players. With the forfeit win, the Indians move to 5-1 for the season and will now turn their attention to Hamilton Christian in District 4-1A play. The Warriors will enter the battle undefeated with a 5-0 record, and were the favorites to win the district title before the season began. “They are a very explosive team,” stated Elton Head Coach Marcus LeJeune. “These kids have been playing together for three years now and they have really progressed into a very good football team.”

LAKE CHARLES — The Jennings Bulldogs made the short trip to Lake Charles last Friday to take on their district mate, Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers, at Navarre Stadium on the campus of McNeese State University. The two teams exploded for scoring fireworks in the contest; however, the Blazers were able to come out on top by a final of 43-32 behind a fourth-quarter surge. The Bulldogs led the contest 20-19 at the end of the third period; however, the offenses went crazy in the fourth stanza. LCCP running back Ayden Carter continued his dominance in Southwest Louisiana by rushing for a game- high 241 yards on 28 totes and a trio of TDs and also returned a 90-yard kickoff late in the game for a score. The Prep offense ran the football for just over 320 yards on the night and capitalized on some huge drives late in the contest. Jennings had over 250 yards of offense in the contest, and Chris Ned threw for a trio of TDs in the loss. Chris Ned tossed the pigskin for 125 stripes, while also running it for 60 more. Humphrey Ned had a pair of TDs in the contest, while D.K. Sams had a beautiful onehanded grab for a score in the fourth quarter.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers put their unbeaten streak on the line Thursday night against the Notre Dame Pioneers at Jack Doland Stadium. The Pios were able to take down the Tigers by a final of 35-7 in each team’s district opener. Notre Dame scored all 35 of their points in the first half and hung on in the second half to clip the Tigers. The Pioneer offense rolled up 470 total yards of offense in the game and limited Lake Arthur to just 201. Notre Dame quarterback Drew Lejeune threw the pigskin for 155 stripes and a pair of scores, while Braxton Meche rushed for 116 yards. Joachim Bourgeois caught two passes for 136 yards and a pair of scores.

The Jennings Bulldogs are coming off an impressive 37-21 win over the DeRidder Dragons last Thursday in a non-district tilt to improve to 4-1. Now the Dogs will turn their attention to league play when they travel to Lake Charles to take on the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers in the district opener for both teams. The game will be played at Navarre Stadium on the campus of McNeese State University. The Bulldogs shone in their last outing against the Dragons and used a big second half to propel them to the win. The Dogs were down 14-6 at the break, but reeled off a plethora of points to notch the win in the second half. Chris Ned had another four TDs in the win, and rushed and passed for over 100 yards. Tailback Gerald Watson also broke the 100-yard mark on the ground and scored a TD, while Humphrey Ned was able to haul in multiple big catches and a TD. Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier discussed last week’s game and liked the way his team played and fought back in the second half.
