2021 6-2A Girls’ All-District Team

Almost exactly a year ago from now, the Jennings High School tennis team had an abrupt end to their season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Once school began again, the Bulldogs were finally able to return to the courts in late August. However, LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) guidelines restricted most practices, and the team did not play nearly as much as usuaL Nevertheless, the players stayed dedicated and determined to practice. Now halfway through their season, the Lady Bulldogs show much promise for the future with an almost perfect record of 8-1. The girls have kicked off the season by beating Alexandria Senior High School , Teurlings Catholic High School, St. Louis Catholic High School, Lafayette Christian Academy, New Iberia Catholic High School, DeRidder High School, and Eunice High School.

The Jennings Bulldogs kicked off their annual Tournament on Thursday by defeating Jeff Davis Parish rival Welsh by a final of 7-4 at Bulldog Diamond. The win upped Jennings to 5-4 overall on the season, while Welsh fell to 1-9. The Bulldogs broke open a 3-3 ball game in the bottom of the fifth with four runs and staved off a Greyhound rally in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 3-run victory.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers stayed perfect on the season Thursday night by earning a 10-run rule victory over the Westlake Lady Rams. The Lady Tigers scored in all five innings to grab a 17-7 win and pounded out 19 hits off of Westlake pitching.

LAKE CHARLES – Trailing by 19 points with just under a minute left to go in the third quarter of their Class B semi-final contest with Simsboro, the No. 3 Hathaway Hornets (HHS) were faced with two options. Let the game get away and sulk, or scrap their way back into it and try to continue their magical run. HHS Head Coach Eric Willis’ group of seniors decided they were going to ultimately fight back with tremendous passion, and nearly got the contest to a one possession game with 20 seconds left on the game clock The Hornets strung together a 24-10 run to slash in to Simsboro’s lead, however the dream fell short when the No. 2 Tigers hit two free throws in the final 15 seconds of the game to earn a 67-61 win.

HAMMOND — There’s an old saying ‘that good things come to those who wait,’ The saying couldn’t be more true for the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers, as they picked up their first Class 2A state championship in 45 years Friday night by edging the Doyle Lady Tigers 62-61 in arguably the most thrilling basketball game at the LHSAA’s Marsh Madness Tournament held at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Alumni Center.

HATHAWAY - Inspired by having more family and friends inside Charles Groth Gymnasium, the home-standing Hathaway Hornets had a 77-53 quarter-final win over the visiting Fairview Panthers. The No. 3 Hornets trailed the No. 6 Panthers twice early in the game, and then steadily increased their lead to punch their ticket to the 2021 Marsh Madness Tournament.
