LAKE CHARLES – In a battle of Class B Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) rivals, the Hathaway Lady Hornets were able to pull away from the Lacassine Lady Cardinals and claim a 65-55 semi-final win at Burton Coliseum. The win advances the Lady Hornets to square off with the mighty Fairview Lady Panthers on tonight at 6 p.m. for the Class B state title.
BELL CITY – The No. 3-ranked Hathaway Hornets advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class B playoffs Friday night by topping district rival Bell City 76-65 on the road Tuesday night. The Hornets will now focus their attention on yet another district foe in the No. 6-seeded JS Clark Bulldogs after the Dogs defeated No. 11 Midland by a final of 44-40 to set up Hathaway’s fourth meeting with their district counterpart. Hathaway and Clark earned a share of the 7-B district crown, however the Bulldogs grabbed a tiebreaker win over the Hornets at the conclusion of the regular season.
AMITE – In similar fashion as their bi-district win over Port Barre, Lake Arthur used a low-scoring contest and rode the scoring of Daylon Charles and Torrell Levias to propel the Tigers to a 52-46 win over the No. 24 Amite Warriors. The win moves the Tigers on to the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A playoffs where they will square off with the No. 1 Port Allen Pelicans. The duo of Charles and Levias combined for 38 of the Tigers’ 52 points, almost an identical mark they posted in the teams’ first round win over the Red Devils of Port Barre.
