Six Jennings High School cheerleaders received big awards at their summer cheer camp held in Baton Rouge last week. Six seniors were awarded All-American honors at the four-day event hosted by UCA and LSU. Seniors pictured are Cali Fontenot (from left), Andre Sams, Noa Headington, Kenzie Marshall, Kennedi Strickland, Ryleigh Deaton and Josie Bruchhaus. The team also won gold ribbons for their performances and took home third place honors at the big competition held on Saturday.

Lacassine first baseman Lane Baguex saw his name called to the Louisiana Sportswriters Association (LSWA) All-State Baseball Team this week. Baguex was named as the first team’s Designated Hitter. This award comes on the heels of being selected to the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team last week. Baguex, a junior, hit .371 on the season with three homers, eight doubles, a triple and 29 RBI’s. He helped the Cards advance to the Class B quarterfinal round of the state playoffs.

Two Jeff Davis Parish baseball players picked up more awards this past week when they were named to the La. Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team. Welsh’s Dane Iguess and Lacassine’s Layne Baguex both saw their names called on the team. Iguess is a senior pitcher/outfielder and Baguex is a power-hitting first baseman. Both players were also voted to the All-District First Team and All-Parish teams. Iguess had a monster season for the Hounds by leading them to the Division IV state championship game, while Baguex helped his Cardinals advance to the Class B quarterfinals.

Jennings High School first baseman Emma Venable and Welsh High School catcher Maggie Johnson were recently named to the LSCA All-State Softball Teams by coaches around the state. Venable helped the Lady Dogs reach the quarterfinals of the Division II state playoffs, while Johnson helped her Lady Hounds reach the regional round of the Division IV playoffs. Venable is the First Lady Dog to ever make an All-State Team.
