Hounds hoping to slow down Dogs’ rushing attack

DEQUINCY – In a game that has come down to three points over the last two seasons, this contest had all the billing of another major struggle from the Lake Arthur Tigers (LA) and the DeQuincy Tigers (DQ). Although DQ only led 14-7 going into the intermission, the homestanding Tigers erupted for 17 points in the second half to take a 31-14 win in a key non-district battle. The Tigers did show some bright spots on the offensive side of the football, as quarterback Cam Bonin tossed the pigskin for a whopping 217 yards and a pair of TD’s, while piling their way to 276 total yards of offense. DeQuincy was able to roll up 338 yards of offense, with most of it coming on the ground.
LENA — The Elton High Indians were on the road Friday as they traveled to The Swamp Stadium to face the Northwood-Lena High Gators for week two of the 2024 season. The Indians brought the heat and burned through the Gators taking home a 39-point win with a final score of 45-6 over Northwood-Lena.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds used a strong running attack and a tenacious defensetooverwhelm the Oakdale Warriors here Friday night by a 42-13 score. The hosts had only a 14-13 lead at intermission but turned up the pressure on the Warriors in the final half. Senior Cameron Bouley was the ringleader for the Welsh offense, as he accumulated 283 yards of total offense and three touchdowns to lead the Greyhounds to win number one for the season. Senior quarterback Jonavon Begnaud also enjoyed a stellar night, as he rushed for an even 100 yards and three scores, while also passing for another 57 yards. The Hounds ran the pigskin for 305 yards on the night, while the defense limited the visitors to 101 stripes on the ground and 123 through the air.
EUNICE — A week after a season opening loss to the Iowa Yellow Jackets, the Jennings Bulldogs rebounded nicely with a dominating 34-0 win over the Eunice Bobcats on the road Friday night. The Dogs used a tenacious defense that forced three turnovers and an offense that grinded out over 300 yards of total offense to roll over the Bobcats. Re’John Zeno churned out over 100 yards on the ground and a pair of scores, while quarterback Chris Ned also had a pair of rushing TD’s. The Bulldog defense picked off Eunice quarterback Montana Brown twice, with D.K Ned and Gerald Watson each grabbing an interception each. Humphrey Ned also garnered a turnover when he stripped Brown of the football early in the contest.

The Elton Indians rebounded from a week one loss in a big way Friday night by tearing through the Northwood-Lena Gators by a final of 45-6.
The Jennings Bulldogs come into this week’s contest looking to rebound from a 38-22 loss to the Iowa Yellow Jackets in their week one opener when they hit the road to face the rival Eunice Bobcats in the annual “Dog/Cat Fight.” The Dogs fell down early to the Jackets in week one but battled back in the second half to close the gap after the offense picked up steam. The Bobcats also dropped their season opener to Northwest High School by a final of 21-14 so both squads come in seeking their first win of the season. The Dogs got big contributions from Re’John Zeno and Chris Ned on the offensive side, while D.K Sams also had a nice TD catch in the game. Zeno rushed for 132 yards in the contest, while Ned made plays through the air and on the ground.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds will attempt to get in the win column this week when they host the Oakdale Warriors in a non-district battle. The Hounds are coming off a 40-16 loss to Kinder last Saturday and are still feeling some of the effects of that game.
