With the win, the Greyhounds advance to the regional round and will host White Castle next Friday night. WELSH — Basile versus Welsh! For us oldtimers, it brings back memories of District 6-B in the early 60’s. Jimmy Vidrine is still a legend in Bearcat country and rightfully so. Some of the old members of that district at one time or other included Oberlin, Basile, Elton, Iota, St. Francis of Iota, Lake Arthur,Iota and St. Michael’s of Crowley. In those days, only the district champion advanced to the state playoffs. That was back when district championships were an important component of sports, unlike it is today.
