Jennings Police Department arrested a Nevada man who was removed from a train for hate speech and threatening statements. According to a release from Chief Danny Semmes, 44-year-old Graham Joey Ley was taken into custody Friday after causing the train he was traveling on to make a stop in Jennings to address his behavior. “On Aug. 1, officers responded to a reported disturbance aboard an Amtrak train, which made an emergency stop near the railroad tracks adjacent to South Main Street,” he said. “Upon arrival, officers made contact with an Amtrak staff member who reported that a male individual—later identified as Graham Ley— had been causing a disturbance by using racial slurs and making terroristic threats toward other passengers.”

Area children enjoyed the opportunity to watch a movie while picking up school supplies at the William E. Broussard Multi-Purpose Building, Monday night. The event was so popular that food and school supplies went quickly, JDP School Board Secretary Debbie Abshire-Sonnier said.

Learning to write is one of the defining milestones of early childhood, but it doesn’t happen all at once. Sammie Jo Ramour of Jennings never lived in a broken home. In fact, her parents were happily married throughout her childhood. She didn’t grow up in a household of drug users either, as she is the first in her family to become one. She also didn’t experience any trauma that could possibly spiral into a methamphetamine addiction.
