BATON ROUGE — A local family who tragically lost their father in a hit-andrun three years ago gathered at the State Capitol with District Attorney Lauren Heinen and State Rep. Troy Romero on Tuesday to push for an amendment — HB 35 — to La. R.S. 14:100 which governs sentencing for these accidents.

Area law enforcement complete training course
LAKE CHARLES — The Calcasieu Parish Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy completed its 133rd Basic Academy by conducting graduation ceremonies recently for 47 officers representing 11 agencies in the Southwest Louisiana area.
United Way opens applications for summer grant
LAKE CHARLES — The Summer Impact Grant application from United Way Southwest Louisiana isnowopen.Organizations located in Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu or Cameron parishes that provide summer enrichment programs for students ages five to 18 may apply. The funding will be used to offer tuition assistance for children from low- to moderate-income households.
