Two area residents recently experienced a once-in-a-lifetime moment at the annual Swamp STOL competition in Jennings. Army National Guard Veteran and Dequincy resident Shawn LeFleur and 14-year-old Layla Maillet of New Iberia were treated to the flight of a lifetime in a WWII T-6 trainer plane.

JDP Landfill commission seeks plan of action for noncompliance

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is requiring Jeff Davis Parish Sanitary Landfill Commission contract operators, Republic Services, to address an issue with a non-permitted pond on landfill property. In response, the commission’s board recently approved sending a letter to Republic Services requesting a detailed plan of action to correct the problem and regain compliance.
