(The Center Square) — Louisiana lawmakers are considering a bill that would impose stricter mandatory sentencing requirements for repeat violent offenders, following the death of Lafayette SWAT officer Sr. Cpl. Segus Jolivette.

A public meeting was held recently at the Lacassine Community Center discussing risks and questions surrounding Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in Louisiana. State representatives heard information from local industry experts on concerns related to CCS projects seeking to store concentrated carbon dioxide (CO2) underground in Louisiana. They also addressed pushback from constituents over eminent domain laws allowing expropriation of property; lack of proper liabilities placed on sequestration companies if damages occur, risks to underground sources of drinking water and lack of local government authority to reject CO2 projects in parishes.
HATHAWAY — Community members from the Hathaway area have been coming forward to share their experiences with bullying and assault after a heavy law enforcement presence was seen on campus earlier this week.
Jeff Davis Parish Police Juror Tim McKnight will represent the parish on the state level, after recently winning a seat on the Police Jury Association of Louisiana Executive Board.
The Jennings Police Department arrested two local women for a laundry list of charges ranging from assault with a firearm to disturbing the peace after officers responded to an altercation between them.
