ELTON — Lack of funding for the police department will leave Elton residents with only a police chief after being informed there was not enough money in the budget to pay officers through the end of the year.
During the council meeting, Chief Bruce Lemelle announced he would have to lay off his three officers and two dispatchers, leaving the elected chief as the only law enforcement employee.
