LAKE ARTHUR – Playing at a high school where your father was a legend and in the school’s Hall of Fame is a tough task already for a young man. It gets a little tougher when that same legendary father is now the same school’s head football coach. Ashton Davis, a senior at Lake Arthur High School, has played the last two years in this exact scenario. His father is former Tiger and McNeese State standout Tarius Davis. Tarius took over the Lake Arthur football program two seasons ago after serving as the head coach in Vinton for a long stint. The family made the journey back to their roots in Lake Arthur when Ashton was just a sophomore, and he has already begun to carve out his own legacy at the school by participating in both football and track. And he doesn’t just participate, he excels. In both sports and also in the classroom, Ashton has set the benchmark high. He has received several honors in football, finished the first three years of high school with a 4.0 and recently took home third-place honors in the 400 meters at the Class 2A State Track and Field Meet. Bringing the Davis name back to Lake Arthur High School is something Ashton says is he is extremely proud of, and takes pride in holding his family’s name in good standing.
Lake Arthur’s Ashton Davis claimed bronze at the Class 2A Track and Field meet last month. Davis is also preparing for his senior season on teh gridiron, and has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career.
HATHAWAY – Without the fanfare of high profile recruiting or personal accolades, Hathaway graduate Brea Baca-White used a span of six years in varsity sports to help demonstrate what the true term of “student-athlete” truly embodies in high school sports. Graduating with a 4.0 and serving as a Valedictorian in her 2022 class, Baca-White lettered in five sports as a Lady Hornet, served in numerous scholastic roles at the school, spearheaded service and community service projects and managed to still find the time to be a teenager. Oh, and she’s also a state champion as well. Baca-White recently capped off her sparkling high school career with a Class B state championship on the track by running the anchor on the school’s record-setting 4x400-meter relay team. She was a standout defender on the basketball court, played tennis, ran cross country and even did indoor track in the winter. Where did she find the time to do all this and still be a standout in the classroom?
NEW YORK (AP) — Tomás Nido went 4 for 4 with three RBIs at the bottom of the batting order, Carlos Carrasco combined with three relievers on New York’s second consecutive shutout and the Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-0 Wednesday to finish a perfect homestand.
