EUNICE — The Elton Indians played their final preseason game against St. Edmund Catholic at the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree in Eunice. The Blue Jays led 14-8 with six minutes left when running back Makelin Lemoine broke off a 64-yard touchdown run to tie it at 14. The Indians’ defense would stop the Blue Jays in their last possession to end the game with a 14-14 tie.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds rode the finesse passing of senior quarterback Grant Haydel and the tough running of senior tailback Ja’Kyrin Woodard to a 28-0 shutout over the St. Louis Saints in the finale of the Welsh Jamboree here Thursday night. In earlier games, the Grand Lake Hornets rushed to a 14-6 win over the Crowley Gents, while the Vinton Lions easily handled the St. Louis JV squad to come away with a 28-0 win.

MOSS BLUFF — In a final preseason test Thursday night at Sam Hooper Memorial Stadium, the Jennings Bulldogs recorded an impressive 20-0 victory over the Broncos of Sam Houston High School in the second game of the Sam Houston Jamboree with big plays on offense and defense that fans are hoping to see all season.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur High Tigers delivered a strong performance in their jamboree matchup with Hanson Memorial, shutting out the opponent Tigers 30-0. Lake Arthur wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, jumping out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter.

EVANGELINE — When Jarrett LeBlanc’s cellphone rang last month, he said he did not immediately answer the call from the unknown number. Waiting in his voicemail was the message from McNeese State University Athletics Communications Director Matthew Bonnette that LeBlanc said he had long hoped to receive since graduating from MSU in 2012: he was officially a member of the McNeese State Athletics Hall of Fame, class of 2026.

LACASSINE — Lacassine High School is planning to hold baseball tryouts for students in sixth through eighth grades on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Tryouts will be held from 3:305:30 p.m. at the Lacassine Baseball Field. Students participating in the event will need to bring cleats, a glove, baseball pants and a hat. An upto- date physical is also required in order to participate. Sign-up sheets are posted outside the front office for students.

The Jennings Bulldogs Football team started their 2026 season with a scrimmage at Jerry Simmons Stadium on Friday with a change-up in their opponent. After scrimmaging Class 5A Barbe for over 30 years, the Dogs picked on someone their own size as they hosted the 3A Patterson Lumberjacks.
