In shooting sports, Jeff Davis Parish 4-H members state qualifiers recently traveled to Port Allen to compete. In the Junior Advanced Shotgun event, Barrett Freeland placed first in the skeet competition with a score of 23 and fifth in sporting clays with a score of 41.

BATON ROUGE - The Hathaway and Lacassine High School track and field teams turned in fantastic performances in the LHSAA Class B state track and field championships on Thursday afternoon. The event was held on the campus of LSU at Bernie Moore Stadium, and the Cards and Lady Hornets both saw a pair of state championships return in an individual event and relay race. The Lady Hornets placed seventh overall as a team in the meet, while the Lady Cardinals earned 11th. The Cardinals finished 10th overall in the boys’ standings, while the Hornets came in at 13th.
Jennings High Senior Kaleigh Shamsie won the 100-meter hurdles at the Regional Track Meet last week, and also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles. Those finishes allowed her to move on to compete in the 3A State Meet held at LSU this Saturday.
COVINGTON — Last Thursday, 10 schools competed in the 2022 LHSAA Region 3-B Championship track meet which was held at Christ Episcopal School. Qualifiers from two Jeff Davis Parish Schools, Hathaway High School (HHS) and Lacassine High School (LHS), traveled to Covington, LA to compete in 53 events. Only those placing third and above advance to State. Qualifying in 24 events, both HHS and LHS secured a trip to the State meet which was held Thursday at LSU.

On April 25 and 26, Lady Bulldogs Jillian Fontenot and Julia O’Brien competed at the Division 3A LHSAA State Tournament in West Monroe. The doubles team defeated Episcopal in both sets with an astounding score of 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of matches. They then fought hard against Loyola Prep and walked out of the match with a score of 2-6, 3-6. Both of the girls were recognized for their hard work on the courts and the classroom, and the seniors each received the All-Academic composite award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA all throughout highschool while playing tennis. The state match concluded the season for the team, and they will host their annual banquet on May 6 to honor the players.
