The Jennings Lady Bulldogs basketball team broke a five-year losing streak to district rival South Beauregard Lady Golden Knights Friday night with a 54-49 win in Longville. Jennings maintained a a slim lead for most of the game except early in the second period when the Lady Knights had a 2-point lead. Jennings was able to regain the lead for the rest of the game and would make clutch free throws in the final minute to secure their win.
The Jennings boys basketball team rolled over the young and inexperienced South Beauregard Golden Knights 74-33 Friday night in Longville. The Bulldogs, who were playing their eighth straight road game in four weeks, made themselves at home by starting off on a 21-0 run. Jennings lead 38-7 at halftime and would put substitutes in for most of the second half. The Bulldogs would outscore the Knights 36 to 28 in the second half in route to their 74-33 win.
MIDLAND — The No. 4 Lacassine Cardinals increased their winning streak to 13 games Friday night, but it was in a much closer fashion than they are used to. The Cards edged past the rival Midland Rebels by a final of 49-42 to improve to 24-5 overall, 4-0 in district 6-B play. The Rebels dropped to 9-18 overall on the season. The Cards clung to a 25-21 lead at the half, and after an even third frame, outscored the Rebs 16-13 to squeeze out the seven-point win. The Cards got a good shooting night out of junior warrior Seth Bourgeois, who scored 12 points and hit a trio of 3-balls.
MIDLAND — The No. 4 ranked Midland Lady Rebels snuck past the No. 10 Lacassine Lady Cardinals by a final of 56-54 in a district 6-B thriller. The Lady Cardinals actually led 43-38 heading into the fourth quarter, however the Lady Rebels out scored Lacassine 18-11 to secure the two-point big district win. The loss erased a huge outing by Lacassine junior Sydnie Cooley who poured in 26 points to lead the guests.
