Jennings High senior Keenan Landry signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at junior college powerhouse Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCC) on Wednesday.

LAKE CHARLES - The Jennings Bulldogs went on the road Friday night and picked up a big come-from-behind, district 4-3A win over the St. Louis Saints at Burton Coliseum. The Dogs rallied late for a 49-46 win to move to 7-5 overall, 2-2 in league play. The big story later in the ball game was the ability of the Bulldogs to knock down shots from the free-throw line. For the game, Jennings knocked down 17-of-23 from the charity stripe, good enough for 74 percent. The Saints on the other hand, hit only 11-of-23 for 47 percent.

BROUSSARD - Coming off of a loss to district 6-B leader J.S. Clark, the Lacassine Cardinals were seeking to get a little revenge in a rematch with Episcopal School of Acadiana (ESA) Friday night. The Falcons had defeated the Cardinals in the first half of district play by rallying in the second half to topple Lacassine on their home floor. This time around, the tables were turned and it was the Cardinals that rallied late for a 55-52 victory at ESA. The win moved Lacassine to 12-7 overall, 2-2 in district play. ESA fell to 15-9 overall, 1-1 in 6-B action.

MIDLAND - The No. 3-ranked Lake Arthur Lady Tigers stepped out of district 6-2A play Friday night and travelled down the road to face Class B No. 7 Midland. The Lady Tigers pushed their win streak to five games with a 75-36 drubbing of the Lady Rebels, and moved their overall season record to an impressive 24-3. Lake Arthur senior Deonna Brister also made school history in the contest, as she became the school’s all-time leading rebounder by yanking down her 988th board of her illustrious career.

BATON ROUGE - The LSU baseball team held its annual Media Day activities and opened preseason practice on a sunny Friday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

MERRYVILLE - The Elton Indians continued to chop down opponents this week as they defeated the Merryville Panthers by a final of 90-61 on the road. The win extends the Indians’ win streak up to 12 games, and keeps them atop the district 4-lA standings at 10-0. Elton improved it’s overall mark to 16-3, and stayed sitting at No. 2 in all of Class A behind powerful North Central High School. Once again, the Indians used a balanced scoring attack to earn the big win by placing five players in double figures, however Sherman Bellow had an exceptional night by pouring in a gamehigh 30 for Elton.

CROWLEY - The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers cruised to another district 6-2A win Tuesday night by riding the first-half scoring of senior Deonna Brister and three others double figures to claim an 83-40 win over the Notre Dame Lady Pios. Brister dumped in a blistering 30 points in the first two quarters of basketball as the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 46-22 lead at the half. Kali Hornsby, Vivian Sketoe and Darrah Broussard would notch double figures in thew win, and moved Lake Arthur to 23-3 overall, 4-0 in league play. Brister would finish with a gamehigh 34 points, while the Lady Tigers continue to use the 3-pointer to their advantage by draining 12 in the contest.

BELL CITY - The No.1-ranked Hathaway Lady Hornets may have come out of the gates a little slow against district rival Bell City in the opening period, however it was total domination following that. The Lady Hornets pulverized the Lady Bruins by a final of 87-43 to improve their overall mark to 18-3, 3-0 in district 6-B play. The Hornets placed four players in double-digits, but it was the monster night of guard Chloey Guidry that stood out. Chloey had 31 points in the contest, which put her over 1,800 career points. Just to make it a family affair, younger sister Sienna, a seventh-grader, buried five 3-pointers en route to 17 points, while Lamiyah Sanchez also got in on the fun with 17 of her own. The Lady Hornets also buried a total of 13 3-balls in the win.
