With a 180-bed jail serving Jeff Davis Parish, booking an individual into the parish facility involves more than determining whether an empty bed is available.
Sheriff Kyle Miers said inmate classifications, the seriousness of the alleged offense, the number of people entering and leaving the facility and the need to maintain space for violent offenders all factor into managing the jail population.
