Legislators reject increase for LA GATOR ESA program

Throughout the 2025 Legislative Session, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry repeatedly pledged to sign every insurance reform bill the Legislature sent to his desk. But Wednesday, he broke that promise – vetoing Senate Bill 111 by Sen. Alan Seabaugh, a measure just passed by lawmakers in an effort to strengthen good faith standards and ensure fair claims processing.
SHREVEPORT — Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that two men have been sentenced in an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case involving the trafficking of controlled substances.
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury recently made a proposal facilitating efforts to unify emergency services with the City of Jennings and parish Fire District No. 2 through a cooperative arrangement concerning Jennings Fire Station No. 2, which is owned by the city but located on leased property owned by the jury.

ELTON — The Town of Elton is one step closer to addressing its issues with campers, run-down mobile homes and encampments after introducing two ordinances for discussion at Wednesday’s meeting.
ELTON — After council members and residents raised questions about finances, town officials here decided to delay determining if Attorney Michael Holmes would receive the boost in pay he was promised when hired in 2023. Mayor Mike Pierrotti asked the council to consider amending the legal counsel contract due to the work Holmes has put in for the town.
A local veterans group is accepting recommendations from the community for their next person of the year.
