Spring showers bring forth

I’ve been growing daylilies for several years, and the richness of the blooms has been exceptionally beautiful this year. I have several varieties, some of which I’ve purchased at the annual Daylily Festival held in Abbeville’s Magdalene Square, and some that have been gifted to me by friends from Jennings and family members from Texas.

Library summer program to kick off soon

Residents of all ages can enjoy this year’s parish library summer event lineup and activities. Jeff Davis Parish Library Summer Reading Program has a jam-packed calendar of events planned for parish families.

School board office security plans underway

After working to fortify parish schools, officials are creating a game plan to add safety measures to the central office. To create a safe workplace for district personnel, Superintendent John Hall announced his intentions to add safeguards to the Jeff Davis Parish School Board office in Jennings.

Voter registration deadlines approach for June election

Parish residents who desire to vote in the June 27 Second Party Primary Election and are not currently registered have until today to do so in person or Saturday, June 6, to register on the GeauxVote app or by visiting voterportal.sos.la.gov/ VoterRegistration.

Youth honor fallen heroes on holiday

Families, veterans and community members gathered Monday at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring the men and women who gave their lives in military service while also paying special tribute to the late cemetery director Dwayne Guidry.

Because of the Brave

Through an event spearheaded by Army Veterans Chuck Abel and Kyle Todd, Welsh citizens and students placed flags at three local cemeteries. This well honored tradition is made possible by volunteers giving their time, along with the Rotary Club of Welsh for its donation of the flags, and the Town of Welsh for storing the poles when not in use.

Residents encouraged to cool off at state parks this summer

Louisiana State Parks recently kicked off the summer season with swimming pools opening statewide for Memorial Day weekend. Water playgrounds and designated beach swimming areas are also open, offering families fun and affordable ways to beat the summer heat. Pools, water playgrounds and beach swimming areas are now available to visitors and overnight guests at no additional charge.
