Methodist church to host free barbecue
The Jennings Methodist Church is holding a Blessings Barbecue event Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will bring people together for food and backyard barbecue fun, while helping to stock the churches’ Blessing Box.
Elton commodities pick up today
ELTON – Due to a truck delivery delay last week, residents here will have an opportunity to pick up their commodities today from 9 a.m. to noon at the Beulah Davis Community Center, located at 1321 Yoakum St. Questions may be directed to Elton Town Hall at 337-584-2992.
Working on the railroad
The railroad system that runs parallel to U.S. 90 in Jennings receives annual maintenance. Crews used a tie crane to move and manipulate the railway ties, a ballast regulator to shape and distribute gravel track ballasts and a tamping machine to pack the track ballast under the railway. These specialized machines were created to maneuver up and down the railway lines, similarly to trains.

The Jeff Davis Parish Chamber of Commerce is seeking members to join their Clean Biz Partnership for Love the Boot Week to become a top Clean Biz parish while helping make a difference in the community.
Guinn seeks third term as mayor
Henry Guinn has dedicated his leadership to the City of Jennings since 2017, when he was first elected mayor. Throughout his tenure, he has faced significant challenges, including the devastating impacts of Hurricane Laura, Hurricane Delta, a historic ice storm, the COVID-19 pandemic and the most recent generational snowstorm. The city’s cleanup and restoration efforts were second to none, with little to no shortages of water or electricity, minimal impassable roads and close collaboration with technology companies to keep cellular towers up and running.
