The Gator Chateau will host a reading and signing of the book “You Can Sit With Me” from 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Aug. 24 in honor of a local author. Children can learn about the adventures of a little girl gator, then hold a live baby gator. Author and Jennings High School Assistant Principal Tisha Whittington, and book illustrator and fellow educator Leigha Briolo will be at the Gator Chateau to read and sign the newly printed children’s book and meet area residents.

LACASSINE — A local non-profit organization supporting domestic violence victims will soon be hosting its largest charity event of the year to help offset the costs of running its shelter. With October being designated as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Jeff Davis Communities Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) is preparing to host its annual Taste-n-Tell fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Bayou Rum Distillery and Event Center, located at 20909 Frontage Rd. in Lacassine. This will be CADA’s second year hosting the event at the new location.
