No prison for nursing home owner who sent 800 residents to ride out hurricane in squalor
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Louisiana businessman who sent more than 800 elderly residents from his seven nursing homes to ride out Hurricane Ida in a crowded, ill-equipped warehouse pleaded no contest to 15 criminal counts Monday and was sentenced to three years of probation.
Motorcyclist injured on interstate
Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a traffic accident on I-10 near mile marker 51 between Welsh and Lacassine Monday morning. Lucas Spencer of Jennings was riding his motorcycle westbound on the interstate at the time of the accident. He received multiple serious injuries and required AirMed transport to an area trauma center. Traffic on the interstate was shut down for a period of time to allow emergency crews access to the scene.
