Veteran benefit poker run returns
Motorcycle, jeep and car enthusiasts are invited to cruise for veterans during the Cajun Riders Club annual poker run, Cruisin’ for Our Veterans. The event brings riders together from all over to help raise funds benefiting local veterans through the Ancillary Committee for the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home and Cemetery. Registration for the poker run will be from 8–10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, in front of the SWLA Veterans Home, located at 1610 Evangeline Rd. in Jennings. Bikers will begin heading out at 10 a.m.
JDSO arrests woman on drugs, weapons charges
ELTON — A local woman found herself behind bars after law enforcement discovered drugs and weapons in her vehicle during a traffic stop, with young children present.
Feeding our COMMUNITY
Parishioners from Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church distribute food to area residents through Catholic Charities. Each month, food can be collected from St. Paul in Elton or OLHC in Jennings. Those wishing to receive assistance can register at their preferred site with a photo ID and pick up their food allotment monthly. The quantity and variety of food provided depend on family size and available supplies. The next distributions will be on April 8 in Elton and April 15 in Jennings. Police jury avoids major insurance hikes on property
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury received updated insurance quotes for property and equipment, avoiding a large increase in premiums. The group was not as fortunate with health insurance this year, as premiums jumped significantly even after receiving various quotes.
