A local social service agency that ensures the needs of parish residents are met is working to remove some of the financial burdens for low-income families during tax season, but time is running out to claim a spot.

A free local business class recently offered residents and business owners insights on collecting and filing state and parish sales and use taxes. A growing number of JDP residents who either run businesses or are looking to open a business in the parish are utilizing the free workshop.

ACADIA PARISH — The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office released new information in a case involving a deceased female whose body was discovered late last week, and officials are asking for the public’s help.

(The Center Square) — The full Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled it was premature to determine if a new Louisiana law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms is constitutional. The ruling doesn’t address a similar Texas case before the court.
